What I help with

Psychotic Disorders Care with Careful Assessment

I work with psychotic disorders through psychiatric assessment, medication management, and brief counseling when things feel frightening or hard to make sense of. We’ll talk carefully about what’s been happening and what needs closer attention.

What people bring me

People may come in when thoughts, perceptions, or a sense of what’s real have started to feel unsettling or confusing. Family members sometimes notice changes first, or the person themselves may feel frightened by how hard it is to keep up with daily life. There can be fear, withdrawal, sleep changes, or trouble functioning in ordinary routines. The work often begins with trying to understand what has changed and what support is needed now.

  • I’m not sure what’s real anymore.
  • I feel like people are watching me.
  • My thoughts don’t line up the way they used to.
  • I’m having a hard time keeping up with daily life.

I slow the conversation down and look at what’s happening in real life.

How I work with it

I use conversation and clinical assessment to understand symptoms, health history, and what may be affecting the picture. Your plan may include medication management, brief CBT or motivational interviewing informed counseling, or a combination of these services. I pay close attention to how things are going over time and revisit the plan as needed. If family is involved, I focus on what helps with communication and day-to-day support without losing sight of the person in front of me.

Medication Management
For psychotic disorders, medication management is often part of careful follow-up. I keep the conversation grounded in what is happening day to day and review the plan as things become clearer.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Brief CBT informed counseling can help with the stress and confusion that come with these experiences. The focus is on what you notice, what feels most disruptive, and how to respond in practical ways.
Motivational Interviewing
This can help when trust is shaky or when it’s hard to talk about what’s been happening. I use it to keep the conversation steady and collaborative.
Pharmacogenetic Testing
If medication selection needs more information, I may discuss this as part of the process. It can add another piece when we’re thinking carefully about medication choices.

What the first sessions look like

In the first sessions, I ask what changes you’ve noticed, what others may have noticed, and what feels most urgent. We review health history, medication history, and anything that’s helped or hasn’t helped before. It’s okay if things aren’t fully figured out before you come in.

I offer a free 15-minute consultation. I reply as soon as I can, usually within 1 business day.

Questions people ask

Do you work with psychotic disorders in adults?

Yes, I work with psychotic disorders as part of my psychiatric care. I focus on assessment, medication management, and follow-up based on what’s happening for the person in front of me.

What happens in the first visit if I’m not sure how to explain what’s going on?

You can start with what you’ve noticed or what someone close to you has noticed. I’ll ask questions to help sort out the picture without expecting you to have the right language already.

Will family members be included in care?

Sometimes family input is useful, depending on what you want and what makes sense clinically. We decide together how much involvement is helpful.

Do you only focus on medication for psychotic disorders?

No, medication management is one part of the care I provide. I also use brief counseling and careful assessment to understand what’s happening and what needs attention.
